Councillor’s Corner 17/18 No 9

Pitmen supporter and HTFCSA committee member Paul Woodhead is a Cannock Chase District Councillor for Hednesford. You will see him around the ground most match days, usually as Pitman Pete and in the Strikers Bar after the game where you can talk to him about any matters or issues of concern.

In these articles I want to bring the role of the councillor alive to you and ensure I am accountable to you as the elected representative for the ward in which the football club resides. I will highlight some of the things I get involved with and the decisions the council makes on your behalf. I will be available after most home games for a general conversation and we can arrange a private discussion should that be appropriate. Alternatively you can contact me by phone on 07930 120077 or by email paul.woodhead@greenparty.org.uk

We have a meeting of the full council this coming Wednesday and I have been asked by a number of residents about how they can make enquiries of Council directly. There are a number of ways this can be done starting with contacting your councillor directly through the contact details on the Council website or through community surgeries should they do them.

However, there are opportunities to present directly to council and whilst I will focus on the District Council here I can advise how this varies between the County and Parish if that is a more appropriate route for your query. There are two ways to make direct engagement beyond attending any meeting as a member of the public, virtually all meetings are open to the public and you can attend as an observer to see the manner and content of a meeting or debate.

Alternatively, you are able to submit a question directly to Council which then receives a direct answer from the Leader or relevant cabinet member or, along with a number of friends or colleagues, submit a deputation where you get to speak to the matter directly, answer questions and hopefully prompt a full discussion at council.

There are rules for each of these and I am happy to talk through with anyone who wants to present something directly to Council if they feel other avenues have not been successful.
