Councillor’s Corner 17/18 No 11
Pitmen supporter and HTFCSA committee member Paul Woodhead is a Cannock Chase District Councillor for Hednesford. You will see him around the ground most match days, usually as Pitman Pete and in the Strikers Bar after the game where you can talk to him about any matters or issues of concern.
In these articles I want to bring the role of the councillor alive to you and ensure I am accountable to you as the elected representative for the ward in which the football club resides. I will highlight some of the things I get involved with and the decisions the council makes on your behalf. I will be available after most home games for a general conversation and we can arrange a private discussion should that be appropriate. Alternatively you can contact me by phone on 07930 120077 or by email paul.woodhead@greenparty.org.uk
Councillors are accountable and accessible to you, the people who elect us. This may seem like an obvious statement but it is a truism which we can take for granted and worth highlighting that the contact details for your local councillor will be on the council website. As well as this some councillors have monthly surgeries and others rely on constituents making contact by email or phone. It is a challenge and one we all need to work hard to achieve a link to our community. I write here of the ways I have tried to address this issue.
If you want to contact me at any time you can do this through my phone and email contacts above or after the game in the Strikers bar. Outside of this I am in Hednesford Library most Friday mornings 9am to 11am and attend a monthly litter pick on Anglesey Nature Reserve from 10am on the last Sunday of every month for a couple of hours, as well as other irregular community events. With fellow Councillor Stuart Crabtree we try to knock every door throughout the year and speak to many, many neighbours and residents in this way.
We have also looked at other ways of engaging with the community including social media but a recent development is to invite everyone to our Net-Walking event. We held the first one last month on Hednesford Hills and the next is planned for Sunday 19th November meeting at noon on Ironstone Road, Prospect Village for a walk through Sevens Road Woodland, part of Cannock Wood then back through the Nuns Well area and a chance for a social chat or discuss issues and concerns whilst enjoying our beautiful countryside.
