Councillor’s Corner 17/18 No 25 Local Council Elections

Pitmen supporter and HTFCSA committee member Paul Woodhead is a Cannock Chase District Councillor for Hednesford. You will see him around the ground most match days, usually as Pitman Pete and in the Strikers Bar after the game where you can talk to him about any matters or issues of concern.

In these articles I want to bring the role of the councillor alive to you and ensure I am accountable to you as the elected representative for the ward in which the football club resides. I will highlight some of the things I get involved with and the decisions the council makes on your behalf. I will be available after most home games for a general conversation and we can arrange a private discussion should that be appropriate. Alternatively you can contact me by phone on 07930 120077 or by email paul.woodhead@greenparty.org.uk

As we head in to our annual round of Council elections (and hopefully the only elections this year!) I write to encourage you all to vote on May 3rd. Please give careful consideration to the person working hardest for your community all year round, challenge what the candidates have done for your area and look who lives local to you.

Council elections are about getting things done locally and can’t change anything around parliament in London. Cannock Council looks after bin collection, housing, planning, litter etc. and does not have responsibility for schools, road, health or social care.

Some key dates for you: Last date to register to vote is Tuesday 17th April. The election date is Thursday 3rd May polls open from 7am to 10pm, but if you are away or unable to get to the polling station you can apply for a postal vote by 5pm Wednesday 18th April and the final date to appoint someone to cast your vote by proxy is 5pm Wednesday 25th April.

However you vote, please vote on May 3rd
