Councillor’s Corner 18/19 No 12 - What are your priorities for the Council?

Pitmen supporter and HTFCSA committee member Paul Woodhead is a Cannock Chase District Councillor for Hednesford. You will see him around the ground most match days, usually as Pitman Pete and in the Strikers Bar after the game where you can talk to him about any matters or issues of concern.

In these articles I want to bring the role of the councillor alive to you and ensure I am accountable to you as the elected representative for the ward in which the football club resides. I will highlight some of the things I get involved with and the decisions the council makes on your behalf. I will be available after most home games for a general conversation and we can arrange a private discussion should that be appropriate. Alternatively you can contact me by phone on 07930 120077 or by email paul.woodhead@greenparty.org.uk

As we head through the festive period and towards the New Year councils turn their minds towards budgets, council tax rises and services delivered or cut. As an opposition councillor and group we can develop alternative proposals to suggest different priorities. Whilst presented as an alternative budget in reality for Cannock Chase this is a request for the cabinet to re-look at their budget to consider the alternative proposals suggested by the opposition. It is usually a very political choice which strongly follows party whip.

The work to develop alternative proposals starts some months ahead of the actual budget vote in February. I have already started working with council officers to help me prepare a couple of suggested alternatives and these will be prepared and presented if they make sense and balance within the budget. As it is unlikely a wide ranging Green view of running a local council focused on sustainability for the planet, people and the local economy will be accepted by councillor colleagues at this time we have to work in more specific areas highlighted by the community.

If you have ideas of some priorities you would like to change in the council please get in touch with me and we can look if it is possible to include these in an alternative budget proposal, after all we work for you.
